RAMSEY CHACRA – UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON 2014
Where did you go to school and what did you study?
I went to the University of Houston where I majored in Retail and Consumer Science. It’s basically a sales degree with a concentration on business to consumer; sales-wise it’s very relevant to my experience now.
How did you learn about Arrive?
I was looking to move to Austin and found Arrive on Indeed. I already had sales experience and I had a friend who was doing logistics that seemed to be doing really well and enjoying the industry, so I wanted to pursue something similar. I didn’t fully know what the job would entail when I applied, but I’ve learned a lot throughout my three years here. It goes to show you don’t have to know it all going into the job, as long as you’re willing to learn and work hard you can be successful.
What keeps you here?
Arrive has a really fun and vibrant culture. We have an energetic, open sales floor. It keeps things fresh. Not to mention we get a lot of great perks, great pay and great benefits; there’s a lot to keep you happy and motivated.
I think the most important thing is that I enjoy what I do. Of course, I’d rather be a billionaire tucked away on an island somewhere, but since I have to work I’m very glad this is my job!
Do you have any advice for soon-to-be University of Houston graduates (or college graduates in general)?
I might just be partial to sales because it’s what I do but I think if you’re feeling unsure of your next steps in life then sales is a great way to start. Even if you don’t spend your whole career in sales, having a sales foundation can translate to success in just about any field. Who knows, you might end up really enjoying it!
