Our talented team here at Arrive comes from a variety of backgrounds, and each brings a unique set of skills to the table. We sat down with Carolyn Berg, Account Executive, to learn more about how her experience at Michigan State University led her to a position at Arrive.
Where did you go to school and what did you study?
I graduated from Michigan State University in May 2021 with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications with a Social Influence Concentration and a minor in Public Relations.
How did you first hear about Arrive?
I first heard about Arrive from my friend, Hugh Rooney, who was a prior intern at Arrive before starting full-time in July. He had described the company’s atmosphere and goals to me and it heavily intrigued me. In March of 2021, I came across the application on Handshake and I decided to apply! The three women I spoke with during my interview process at Arrive were very interested in my goals and motivated to make those a reality.
How did you become interested in going into the logistics industry?
During my interview process, I truly enjoyed talking with each employee. Our conversations flowed very well and I sensed the hard work and determination from all Arrive employees. I was highly interested in the Account Executive role as I value strong communication skills and collaborating with a group. I’m so glad I began working in the logistics industry because I love how the potential at Arrive is infinite!
What’s your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part about being an Account Executive at Arrive is seeing the loads I create and schedule get booked. There are a lot of small working pieces that go into scheduling pickup and delivery appointments. Being on the Operations team, I am able to apply my communication skills with the shippers and receivers then relay those messages over to the carriers.
What keeps you at Arrive?
The LFG mentality is electric at Arrive. Everyone is eager to work hard while maintaining a passion to keep the company growing. Interacting with my co-workers is fun and productive!
Have any advice for soon-to-be college grads?
I would recommend getting as much learning experience as you can get. Push yourself out of your comfort zone and absorb everything you can while still in classes. Once you begin working full-time, you will only continue to learn more information. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and make mistakes, that’s what allows you to comprehend new information. Never stop learning!
If you could go back in time and tell your college self one thing, what would it be?
College is one of the best times of your life. Live in the present and enjoy your time as a student! Take advantage of any in-person contact you can get now! Also, be eager to explore any job opportunities as you could end up loving an occupation that you had never even heard of.
For someone about to start a career in sales and logistics, what would you tell them?
Be brave and confident. New opportunities within logistics can arise at any moment. There’s so much going on at once, so make sure to multitask in the most efficient way that’s possible for you. Also, find a good strategy that keeps you organized each day.
